Substantial Completion was achieved on this complex project in December 2019. This was a 2 phased project which commenced in Fall 2018. Phase 1 saw the demolition and reconstruction of the club’s Tad pool which now features an infinity edge, as well as construction of a structural platform and lift to accommodate the new reception area.
Phase 2 involved extensive work to the underside of the roof deck above the smaller Tad pool and the larger Lap pool. To accomplish this, a cantilevered engineered scaffold was installed over the pools, which remained operational during the entirety of phase 2 while new sprinklers, lights and acoustic panels were installed on a platform high above the operational pool.
The Certified Professional Accountants of Ontario moved to their new head offices located at The Exchange Tower in Toronto in the Fall of 2019. This Shurway project featured the build out of 65,000Sf of new open plan office space and support facilities over 3 floors. CPAO staff were able to move into the new space on time on October 1st 2019 and enjoy the extensive new installation of state of the art audio, visual and IT equipment. Shurway is currently building a new interconnecting stair between the 3 floors of the offices which will provide a dramatic focal point for the new space in late February 2020.
Shurway is very proud to announce the completion of a major renovation of the historic Royal York Hotel in Toronto. This $22million project saw the conversion of 6 floors of existing rooms into Gold level suites. To accomplish this, 200 existing hotel rooms were converted into 100 new Gold suites. This was achieved by demolishing the existing terracotta tile walls between the suites, providing all new mechanical and electrical services and fitting out the rooms with high quality modern finishes. Shurway is excited to announce ground-breaking at our new Jiffy self storage facility project in Ajax. This project involves the construction of 130,000SF of self storage and office space including 10 single storey buildings of 55,000SF and one 3 storey building of 75,000SF. The structural steel frame will be clad with curtainwall, prefinished metal panels and precast concrete and aluminum cladding. Site work includes the construction of a new storm water management pond, parking and landscaping. The project will be completed in 2020.

Perkins + Will is a an interdisciplinary, research-based architecture and design firm of over 2,200 professionals. Completed on a construction management basis, the space prioritizes employee health and wellness, inclusivity, and sustainability. Conceived as a flexible, multi-purpose “living laboratory” that fuels design experimentation and research, it features communal areas to host clients and guests, and an array of open and enclosed spaces to allow staff to choose where, when, and how they work. Following a devastating fire in 2017, Shurway returned to the prestigious club to rebuild the facilities which suffered catastrophic fire, water and weather damage. Shurway’s initial role was to assist the club in recovery while rebuilding plans were completed – temporary power, heat and water were installed and the club was able to be up and running for limited activities shortly after the initial fire. During this time, Shurway undertook detailed planning for the complex rebuild of remaining facilities which commenced on site in the Fall of 2017. Shurway has recently completed a $9million project for Heinz Kraft’s new warehouse & distribution Centre in Halton Hills, Ontario. This 500,000SF project was undertaken on a Design Build basis for all tenant improvements and services which included office areas and warehouse space with LED lighting, ESFR sprinklers and in-rack sprinklers, all new power distribution system and panels, battery charging stations with associated power and ventilation systems, summer ventilation system, high end dock equipment, shelters and control panels.
June 19th, 2018 marks the grand opening of Canada’s first Kimpton Hotel. Kimpton is a chain of boutique hotels now owned by Intercontinental Hotel Group. Shurway gutted and converted the former Holiday Inn on Bloor Street and carefully transformed it into the Kimpton branded St. George Hotel. The renovation of this 14 floor building included 188 guest rooms and corridors as well as a new main entrance lobby and dining facilities. Contractor Check is a third party health and safety pre-qualification accreditation program that assesses the health and safety management systems of contractors, and evaluates them based on federal and provincial safety legislation. For our fifth year, Shurway has been granted a Certificate of Accreditation which reflects our continuing commitment to facilitating a safe working environment for our employees, subcontractors, and clients.
Shurway is proud to announce the completion and successful opening of 2 business class airline lounges at Toronto Pearson’s airport. In June 2017, the rebuild of the Terminal 1 International Plaza Premium Lounge was completed. Included in this project was the construction of a temporary lounge during construction. Plaza Premium Group is the pioneer and industry leader in premium airport lounges in over 150 locations worldwide. In July 2017, Shurway also completed the construction of a new Admirals Club lounge in Terminal 3 for American Airlines. American Airlines is the world’s largest airline and opened the world’s first airline lounge in 1939 at New York’s La Guardia airport.
